Couperose or rosacea, Genève

Sebum, a fatty substance that creates chronic irritation of the face when present in excess, is responsible for 50% of rosacea. It is made up of cellular debris, cholesterol, and impurities accumulated during the day.

Due to its pro-inflammatory properties, it causes a daily and progressive aggression of the skin. The weakening of the cutaneous barrier by sebum and the production of vascular growth factors will lead to the development of anarchic neo-vessels responsible for redness.
There are, however, couperose forms devoid of cutaneous excess sebum. A microbe known as Demodex Follicurum is also believed to participate in the inflammatory response present in rosacea.

Alcohol consumption is not a causal factor but an aggravating factor in the disease. It is therefore advisable to drink in moderation.
More frequently found in Nordic people (Bretons...), it materializes in different forms:

• skin flushes or transient redness, often favored by emotion, stress, a spicy meal or alcohol consumption;

• erythrose or permanent redness, generally located on both cheeks;

• couperose corresponding to fine, tortuous vessels that are very visible, especially in the wings of the nose;

• the papulopustular form, which is the appearance of inflammatory pimples resembling fine acne eruptions. This stage is also known as acne-rosacea;

• major trophic disorders such as rhinophyma when there is the very late treatment of severe rosacea.

The treatment of rosacea at the CLEAGE center is based on two pillars: the elimination of sebum and the destruction of anarchic vessels.

The treatment and elimination of sebum and the reduction of Demodex Folicurum through the daily application of professional cosmeceutical ZO SKIN HEALTH. A customized care protocol, adapted to your skin, will be proposed by the doctors of the CLEAGE center and will be carried out daily at home.

It will allow the suppression of sebum and consequently a reduction of the inflammatory response. An improvement of redness and restoration of the cutaneous barrier will be progressively observed.

In combination, a LUTRONIC Nd Yag Clarity II vascular laser treatment will treat all forms of rosacea by reducing the size of the anarchic vessels present in erythroid-couperose. 2 to 4 sessions are necessary depending on the severity and stage of rosacea. Transient post-laser redness for 3 to 4 days and slight swelling will be present and will disappear progressively and spontaneously.

Due to the mechanism of rosacea, redness is expected to return over time.
